What LGCY is, and why we built it.
LGCY keeps encrypted messages, files and credentials for the people you choose, and opens them on a date you set — or when the Guardians you name agree the moment has arrived. Here is why we built it, what we hold ourselves to, and who we are.
Everyone has things worth passing on. Almost nobody has a way to do it.
- Advice recorded in a parent’s own voice.
- A video for a birthday that is still years away.
- The passwords and papers a family needs on the worst day of their lives.
These things already exist — scattered across phones, drives and accounts that will not outlive their owners.
Few of us ever really consider what will happen to all our digital content when we are gone. It’s a sobering thought, and one we all naturally resist — until the time comes and you are the one scrambling to piece things together at possibly the worst point in your life. Where the documents are, which photographs should go to whom, what happened to the videos of that wedding.
Fewer of us still think about how those things could be saved for that precise moment, and that is exactly what triggered the idea for LGCY decades ago: a death in the family, and a thought that followed it — what if you could send all of this to an unknowable time, and be sure it arrived?
So that is what we built. A solution that does what it promises, seamlessly, safely and above all, securely.
We are not freshmen.
We are not a household name, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. What we are is a team of seasoned technology entrepreneurs, building with current product engineering resources — people who know what it takes to bring a product to market and to keep it running once it is there.
Our brand stands on one promise, which is trust. For a company as young as ours we know how bold that sounds — so we would rather you checked than believed us. The encryption protecting your files is AES-256, the same standard banks and governments rely on, and the mechanism that releases them is documented in full on our Security page.
Three things that are true, and checkable.
We can’t read it
Everything is encrypted: in your browser before it reaches us, using keys we cannot open, in transit over the internet, and in storage. We can only see what your items are called and how big they are, but never what is inside them.
The storage isn’t ours to switch off
Your digital content is held on an open network we neither own nor run, where storage is bought outright rather than rented. That is why each event is paid for once: there is no monthly bill that can lapse, and no server of ours holding the only copy.
It stays yours
Secured never means locked to you. Open, replace or withdraw anything you have made, right up to the moment it is released.
